Baswe, U
   (1915-1987)
   Aleading politician and one of the founders of the Socialist Party of Burma at the end of World War II, becoming its president in 1947. From 1947 to 1952, he was secretary general of the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League (AFPFL) and in 1956-1957 served as prime minister of the Union of Burma. Following the split in the AFPFL in March 1958, he and U Kyaw Nyein became leaders of the "Stable" faction, in opposition to U Nu's "Clean" faction.
